Martin Clunes joins a mission to make wildlife history by returning lions to a remote part of Kenya first made famous by the Born Freemovie.
It’s 25 years since lions roamed the Kora national park, close to the border with war-torn Somalia. Legendary conservationist George Adamson had his camp there, famously releasing orphaned and captives lions, including Elsa the lion cub, back into the wild. His right-hand man was the youthful Tony Fitzjohn. After his murder in 1989 by Somali bandits, George’s camp was razed to the ground. But now Fitzjohn has lovingly rebuilt it, faithful in every detail to the original and plans to start releasing orphaned lions into the wild once more.
Clunes and Fitzjohn have had a close friendship since they met 20 years ago when they released Nina, a zoo elephant back into the wild. Together they join forces once again to attempt to raise and then release Mugie, a lion cub who was found when he was just 3 weeks old, washed up and alone on the banks of a river after a flash flood. Filmed over a period of 2 years, this film follows their mission to its fateful conclusion.
