Alexander Armstrong embarks on an epic, eight-thousand-mile journey around the Arctic Circle meeting the people who not only survive but also thrive in this extreme and sometimes hostile environment.

Beginning his journey in Scandinavia, Alexander visits Svalbard during the depths of winter when it is ‘polar night’ and remains dark for over 100 days. He gets caught in a snow storm and is there to experience the first sunrise.

In Part 2 he travels to islands of Iceland and Greenland where he flies over an active volcano, swims between two tectonic plates and takes on a Viking wrestler.

Finally, in Part 3, he travels across Canada and Alaska. Here he takes part in a modern-day gold rush in the Yukon getting a touch of ‘gold fever’, drives down one of the world’s most dangerous highways, and ends his journey on the international dateline right on the border between the US and Russia.
