CREDITS

Ross Kemp travels through Rwanda to the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. It was the remnants of the Hutu militia who fled Rwanda after the genocide that sparked a bloody civil war that has claimed over six million lives. Rape and unspeakable acts of sexual violence have become its terrible hallmark. The war is fuelled by blood minerals, one of which - Coltan - ends up in our laptops, mobile phones and remote controls.

Kemp travels with the UN deep into militia-held territory and meets some of the men accused of war crimes. He also manages to travel secretly to a Coltan mine to see first-hand the mineral that has been responsible for so much bloodshed and visits a prison in Goma that the UN has called the worst in the world. But he also meets a Congolese doctor who runs the only clinic capable of treating women suffering from fistula – injuries resulting from brutal sex crimes - as well as providing a sanctuary for the women and their children who are often ostracised by their own communities after they are raped.
